COMMSOFT ANNOUNCES ENHANCED CABLE BILLING FUNCTIONALITY
ALBANY, NY - CommSoft, a leading provider of billing software
to midsize communications companies, announced today the
completion of its development effort to add enhanced cable-specific functionality
to
its convergent billing product, CommVergence. The added
features will facilitate comprehensive triple play offerings of voice,
video and
data products for cable and telephony providers alike.
CommVergence, an account number based, end-to-end customer care and billing
platform, has enabled the convergent billing of multiple services for
years. This new development project adds additional functionality for
billing digital and analog cable products, product bundling and discounting.
Using CommSoft’s Interface Engine project, CommSoft’s triple
play billing solution includes provisioning to HITS (Headend
In the Sky) and cable modems with the ability to conduct record audits
to eliminate
billing discrepancies.
CommSoft’s account-number based solution allows communication service
providers to bill for all of the following services on a single bill (or
multiple bills, as requested). CommVergence includes fully integrated
systems for managing inventory, plant, trouble tickets and dispatch in
addition to customer care, billing and rating. Complex corporate accounting
structures involving multiple sites and subsidiaries are also supported
in the single system. Completing the package, CommSoft’s provisioning
automates triple play service activations, trouble checking, and record
auditing to ensure accuracy and revenue assurance from the order to the
bill.
CommSoft’s triple play billing solution includes:
Triple Play Product Billing

Triple Play Product Provisioning
Any network element accessible by TCP/IP, dial-up, web
or direct connection

Triple Play Marketing & Churn reduction
Single, convergent bill, or choice of separate bills
Cross-product discounting
Multiple product bundling
EBPP (Electronic Bill Presentment & Payment)
“This project draws on our 20 year history providing billing
solutions to cable, telephony and data providers,” said Larry Davis,
CommSoft’s CEO and chief technical strategist. “Our CommVergence
product was created based on account numbers in order to
allow providers to go wherever the industry takes them in terms of product
offerings.
This factor, along with the development partnerships we
have with our customers allow us to customize and deploy solutions that
respond rapidly
to industry demands.”
The Yankee Group supports the positive impact of convergence on churn.
In a recent NY Times article, “It’s Not Enough to Be Just
a Phone Company,” Roger Entner of the Yankee Group stated, “carriers
may well see a diminishing impact on customer churn as they bundle more
services into one bill. When a company ties two services like long-distance
and local service together, its churn falls one quarter. But when phone
companies bundle a third product, the churn rate declines another eighth;
adding a fourth product reduces churn an additional sixteenth."
